{and hands from the elbows}(5:6)

What the scholar, may God consolidate him, reported to me from Abu l-Qasim Ja’far Ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad Ibn Ya’qub, from Muhammad Ibn Husain and others, from Sahl Ibn Ziyad, from Ali Ibn Hakam, that Haitham Ibn Urwah At-Tamimi said: “I asked Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) about His word: “So wash your faces and hands to the elbows.”” (5:6) Then he said: “That is not how His revelation (Tanzil) is read. It only reads: “So wash your faces and hands from the elbows.” Then he passed his hand from his elbow to his fingers.” And according to this reading the question is dropped entirely.”

Muhammad ibn al-Hassan and others have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Haytham ibn ‘Urwah al- Tamimiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the words of Allah, the most Majestic, most Glorious, {wash your faces and hands to the elbow} and I passed my hand over my hand to my elbow asking, ‘Should I wash in this manner?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It was not revealed that way. It is only {wash your faces and hands from elbow} He (the Imam) passed his hand over his elbow toward his fingers.”

Sheikh Al Majlisi writes:

By His (as) statement " hā-kaḏā tanzīluhā " it is meant its meaning (i.e not its reading) and that means that by the word " ilā " it is meant "Min" or it means that " ilā " in the verse is the limit for what one has to wash and not the washing, so that one does not understand the beginning (of where one has to wash) from the verse and from the Sunnah it is clear that the beginning is from the elbow. So the meaning is that it does not deny the beginning from the elbow.

However, it does not state that and it is absurd . Obviously, It means that it (the verse) is read differently by Them(as)

(I.e its not tafsir but a correct reading presented by Ahlul bayt{as} )
